After 24 years of marriage, Rowan Atkinson and his wife Sunetra have agreed to file for a divorce. London’s Central Family Court district judge has granted a decree nisi to the couple. Rowan Atkinson was not present for the proceedings.
The two reportedly separated in 2014, and Sunetra cited “unreasonable behavior” on the part of the actor and comedian. Rowan and Sunetra married in 1990 and have two children together. They were reportedly building a new home when they separated. The couple has since lived in their separate homes in London.
Rowan is now with actress Louise Ford, and the two have allegedly been together for about 18 months.
The divorce will not be final until either party files for a decree absolute. Typically, one may file for a decree absolute six weeks from the grant of decree nisi. A decree absolute is the document that finally ends a marriage in the UK.
