A consumer privacy watchdog group filed a complaint against Facebook for allegedly breaching their privacy agreement, Tech News reported on July 6.

The Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) accused Facebook of deceptive trade practice after the company allegedly used information about its users in a 2012 research involving emotional manipulation. The group stated that during the experiment, the company’s September 2011 Data Use Policy was in place, which did not disclose that user information can be used for research.

In 2012, the social networking giant conducted a large-scale mood experiment involving almost 700,000 users, in which Facebook changed users’ News Feeds to show them more positive or more negative posts.
